OGUNJOBI JOINS THE SUN’S WORLD CUP SEMINAR TRAIN

Former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has throws his weight behind The Sun Publishing Limited’s World Cup seminar holding in Port Harcourt later this month.

The seminar has ‘That Super Eagles may excel in Russia 2018 and beyond as a general theme.

Ogunjobi an experienced football technocrat who had been a skipper and later general manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club when the club as at its peak was also later a general secretary of the NFA and much later, a board member and head of technical committee of the NFF

According to the man who became the NFA General Secretary on the eve of Nigeria’s participation at the 2002 World Cup, “this is the right time for all Nigerians to support the Super Eagles”.

He remarked that the seminar will help in creating more awareness for the Super Eagles’ participation in the World Cup, adding that he has no doubt that it will be a huge success, especially with the pedigree of The Sun that is spearheading the event.

“I can’t wait to get an invitation to attend the seminar, especially coming from a reputable organisation like The Sun. Apart from creating more awareness on the importance of Nigeria’s participation at the World Cup, which is the biggest stage for football, it will also help the corporate world showcase themselves before Nigerians.

“I therefore implore all football loving corporate bodies to key into the programme and assist the Super Eagles to do well in Russia. I’m fully in support of the seminar and I can’t wait to attend,” the Osun State FA chairman said.

Rivers flow to the top!

Rivers United have launched themselves to the top of the log at the end of the match day 5 of the Nigeria Premier League. The Port Harcourt side beat Akwa United 2-1 to go afloat after initial leaders, Remo Stars crumbled to a 1-0 defeat at Kwara United in Ilorin on Sunday.

It was Remo Stars’ first defeat in the season. Rivers United are now with 13 points. Stephen Mayo put Rivers United ahead after 31 minutes. But it turned a temporary lead as Akwa United bounced back almost at the blast of the referee’s whistle for the second half.

Friday Apollos levelled up for Akwa United before Ndifreke Effiong Udo scored the winner in the 85^th minute.

Enyimba’s duel with Katsina United plunges into darkness

Former Nigerian champions, Enyimba were coasting to a comfortable 3-0 lead before the game got enveloped by darkness.

The game could not be completed after 75 minutes when the floodlights of the arena suddenly went off.

According to a post on Enymba x-handle, the match will resume at 8.00 am on Monday “ as agreed by both teams and the match officials.”

Amuneke’s Heartland secures first win this season

Heartland finally got into winning ways on Sunday after the Owerri side secured a 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes.

The club, under former Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Emmanuel Amuneke had gone four matches without a win, finding themselves swimming in the murky waters of relegation.

A brace by Michael Ogu has lifted the club which climbed up to the 16^th position. They had begun the season badly losing at home to Enyimba and failing to win any of the subsequent three matches.
