Dembele named FIFA player of 2025, Bonmati wins women’s award for third time

Paris St Germain and France forward Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA men’s player of the year in Doha on Tuesday, with Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati winning the women’s award for the third year in a row.
Dembele was instrumental in PSG’s first Champions League triumph when they beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the final and scored 35 goals last season across all competitions, including 21 in Ligue 1 to finish as top scorer.
The 28-year-old, who won this year’s Ballon d’Or in September, was part of the PSG team which also swept all before them on the domestic front last season and reached the final of the Club World Cup.
Dembele was able to attend the ceremony, as he was already in Qatar for Wednesday’s Intercontinental Cup final where PSG take on Flamengo.
“I want to thank all my teammates, it just shows that hard work pays off,” Dembele said.
“It’s been a fantastic year for me, both individually and collectively. I hope to come back here again next year.”
Bonmati, the Champions League player of the season, also won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the third time in a row this year, and helped Barcelona win the domestic treble along with reaching the Champions League final.
The 27-year-old also reached the Euro 2025 final with Spain, losing the decider to England on penalties, and Bonmati was named Player of the Tournament.
“Thank you to the players, coaches and fans who have voted for me to win this award,” Bonmati, who is currently recovering from surgery on a fractured fibula, said.
Sarina Wiegman won the best women’s coach award for the fifth time after leading England to retain their European Championship title, and Luis Enrique won the men’s coach award after taking PSG to their first Champions League win.
The best women’s goalkeeper award went to England and Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton who played a major role in the Lionesses’ Euro 2025 win with her penalty shootout saves and also won the domestic treble with her club.
Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, who now plays for Manchester City, won the men’s keeper award for his role in PSG’s treble win.
Mexico’s Lizbeth Ovalle won the FIFA Marta Award for the best goal in women’s football, for her scorpion kick for Tigres against Guadalajara in March.
Santiago Montiel won the Puskas Award for the best men’s goal for his overhead strike for Independiente against Independiente Rivadavia during an Argentine Primera match in May.

Winners of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 to Be Unveiled in Doha

The winners of The Best FIFA Football Awards™ 2025 will be revealed on Tuesday, December 16, at a high-profile gala event in Doha, Qatar, FIFA has announced.
The tenth edition of the awards will be unveiled during the FIFA Celebration 2025 Dinner at the Fairmont Katara Hall, with the ceremony broadcast live on FIFA.com from 20:00 local time (18:00 CET).
The event comes on the eve of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025™ final between Paris Saint-Germain and CR Flamengo at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.
Before the gala dinner, several award categories will be announced through digital videos on FIFA’s platforms and social media channels.
These include the Best Fans, Best Goalkeepers, Best Goals in women’s and men’s football, as well as the recipient of the FIFA Fair Play Award.
The ceremony will host around 800 guests, including the FIFA President, members of the FIFA Council, FIFA Legends, representatives of Member Associations from across the globe, and distinguished local and regional ambassadors of football.
Fans have once again played a central role in determining the winners, casting more than 16 million votes across multiple categories. Key awards such as The Best FIFA Women’s Player, The Best FIFA Men’s Player, Women’s and Men’s Coaches of the Year, and Women’s and Men’s Goalkeepers were decided through an equally weighted voting system involving fans, national team captains and coaches, and media representatives.

The FIFA Fan Award was decided exclusively by fans, while the FIFA Fair Play Award was chosen by an expert panel.
With anticipation building ahead of the ceremony, the global football community will be watching closely as FIFA honours the standout players, coaches and moments of the 2025 season.

Voting Opens for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 — Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie Flying the Flag

The global voting phase for The Best FIFA Football Awards™ 2025 is now open, with Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie among the elite nominees, as FIFA invites fans, captains, coaches, and journalists to help decide the winners of world football’s most prestigious individual honours.
The awards, which celebrate excellence in the men’s and women’s game, will recognise standout players, coaches, and goalkeepers, as well as honour the FIFA Fan Award winners. This year marks the 10th edition of the ceremony, coming at the end of a landmark season highlighted by the expanded FIFA Club World Cup™ held in the United States — a tournament that drew over 2.5 million spectators and captivated billions worldwide.
Nnadozie Represents Africa Among World’s Best
For Nigeria, all eyes are on Super Falcons captain Chiamaka Nnadozie, who made the shortlist for The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper Award. The 23-year-old, who starred for Paris FC before a recent move to Brighton & Hove Albion, is the only African player across all categories this year — and stands a chance of becoming the first from the continent to win the award.
Her nomination comes after a stellar year for club and country, featuring heroic penalty saves, commanding leadership, and consistent performances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and Olympic qualifiers.
Nnadozie is listed alongside some of the world’s top goalkeepers, including Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany/Gotham FC), Christiane Endler (Chile/Lyon), and Cata Coll (Spain/Barcelona).
How Voting Works
Voting commenced on November 6, 2025, and will run until 23:59 CET on November 28, 2025. Coaches and captains of all 211 FIFA Member Associations, accredited journalists, and fans worldwide can cast their votes through a dedicated voting application available on FIFA.com/The-Best-FIFA-Football-Awards-2025.
Each of the four voting groups — coaches, captains, journalists, and fans — carries equal weight (25%) in determining the final results.
Nominees at a Glance
Among the star-studded lists are global icons such as Kylian Mbappé, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi (for The Best FIFA Men’s Player), as well as Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, and Temwa Chawinga (for The Best FIFA Women’s Player).
Coaches Mikel Arteta, Luis Enrique, Sarina Wiegman, and Jonatan Giráldez also feature among the nominees for managerial excellence, while Alisson Becker, Emiliano Martínez, and Manuel Neuer headline the men’s goalkeeping category.
FIFA will also present special honours, including The Best FIFA Men’s 11, The Best FIFA Women’s 11, and the FIFA Fan Award, which celebrates extraordinary passion and support.
A Proud Moment for Nigeria
Nnadozie’s nomination continues a proud Nigerian tradition of global recognition, echoing past appearances by legends such as Mercy Akide, Asisat Oshoala, and Perpetua Nkwocha in major FIFA award considerations. Her inclusion underscores Nigeria’s enduring influence on women’s football and Africa’s growing presence on the world stage.
Voting closes on November 28, and the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony later this year — where the world will celebrate football’s finest and, perhaps, witness a new chapter of Nigerian history being written.
