The Young Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire were crowned champions of the 2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament after a narrow 1-0 victory over Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in a tense final played on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana.

The Ivorians capped a flawless campaign with their fifth consecutive win, showcasing discipline, cohesion, and tactical superiority throughout the tournament.

Their triumph was sealed deep into stoppage time, when Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt mishandled a free-kick, allowing Zakaria Tindano to pounce and score the only goal of the match.

Côte d’Ivoire’s path to the title was nothing short of impressive. They opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso, followed by 1-0 and 2-0 victories against Niger Republic and Togo, respectively, in the group stage. In the semi-final, they came from behind to eliminate hosts Ghana with a 2-1 comeback win.

On the other hand, the Flying Eagles reached the final through a mix of grit and firepower. After drawing 1-1 with Ghana in their opening game — thanks to an 84th-minute equalizer by forward Mohammed Abdullahi — they roared back from behind to crush Benin Republic 4-1 in their second group match.

Their semi-final clash against Niger Republic proved more nervy, ending 0-0 in regulation time before the Nigerians edged it 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout to book their place in the final.

As anticipation builds for Wednesday’s showdown, all eyes will be on Head Coach Ladan Bosso’s successor, Aliyu Zubair, who continues to build a winning résumé. Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, bounced back from an early setback to overpower the Junior Cheetahs of Benin Republic 4-1 in an impressive outing marked by attacking flair and second-half dominance.
