Maverick football enthusiast and former Gombe State Football Association chairman, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe has vowed to address a major press conference in which the issue bothering on Nigerian football issues will be addressed.

This is a fallout from the recent Africa Cup of Nations in which the Super Eagles lost in the title match. It is the fifth time in eight final matches  that Nigeria had lost. It equalled the existing five times that Ghana Black Stars lost in the final matches.

With the hope of a somehow miraculous win dashed on the final day, there were more negativities than positives following an apparent singling out of midfielder, Alex Iwobi for cyber attacks on social media platforms as well as what should be the fate of the Nigerian team manager, Jose Peseiro.

In a statement he issued ahead of his proposed conference, Gara Gombe remarked: “I have also noticed some stakeholders, a few of them, respected stakeholders in their reactions to Alex Iwobi’s Cyber bulling experience. For me, those reactions are none issue, even Iwobi acted childishly”,

“I demand to know if Iwobi is the first Super Eagles player to be Cyber bullied by fans in Nigeria. In my opinion, Iwobi should have ignored it and move on.

“However, those who attacked Iwobi are unfortunately very uncultured and useless people..” All the same, Gara Gombe is of the opinion that the cyber attacks were nothing compared to what the duo of Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Sani Keita got after the 2010 World Cup.

Aiyegbeni’s  missing of a glaring goal chance from less than three metres from the goal line and with the goalkeeper of South Korea already out of position was a global talking point. Before then was the self-inflicted red card that Sani Keita got in the 2-1 loss to Greece.

Sadly, both incidents marked the end of the international career of both players.
