Super Eagles hit luck with newly introduced base camp system at AFCON 2025
By KUNLE SOLAJA
A lot of potential logistic problems may have been taken off the Super Eagles with the CAF’s newly introduced base camp system at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Starting with Morocco 2025, teams will have base camps. Nigeria Super Eagles will be based in the northern city of Fez, where they will play their three group matches.
But their Group C opponents – Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda will be based in Rabat from where they will travel to Fez to meet Nigeria.
Tanzania, Nigeria’s first opponents will be based at the Fairmont La Marina Rabat Sale & Residences. Tunisia will stay at The View also in Rabat. Uganda will be at Rabat’s Ritz Carlton.
The CAF is introducing an innovative “base camp” system for the 24 qualified teams.
The Super Eagles will be the only one in Fez among the 24 teams of AFCON 2025.
Seven teams will be based in Rabat. They are Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania, DR Congo, Botswana, Algeria and Benin.
Six others will be in Casablanca. They are Burkina Faso, Zambia, Mali, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan.
In Agadir, Egypt, Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique will camp. Senegal will be the only team with a camp base in Tangier.
This unprecedented approach, set to be implemented from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, promises to radically transform the logistics and preparations for the teams.

BY KUNLE SOLAJA
Following the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations draw, Nigeria’s Super Eagles, drawn in Group C along with Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, will have their camp in Fez, the second-largest city in Morocco.
Fez is in the northern inland part of the country. The team will be based at Hotel Saharai in Fez.
The five-star hotel is centrally located on a hill between the Medina (market) and the New Town thus offering unparalleled views of the city and its surroundings.
It is about 3km from the 17th-century Ibn Danan Synagogue and 6 km from the Marinid Tombs.
It features floor-to-ceiling windows with scenic views, the chic rooms have glass-enclosed marble bathrooms, and mosaic tile and/or exposed stone walls. They offer Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars and Nespresso machines, as well as safes. Suites add living areas. Some quarters have terraces.
