As earlier projected by Sports Village Square on Wednesday, the Thursday draw of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series has pitched Nigeria and Benin Republic together.
Both teams are also in the same World Cup qualifying group. In their match last month, Benin beat Nigeria 2-1. It was the first ever competitive match defeat of Nigeria by their western neighbours. Benin Republic are being coached by Nigeria’s former handler, Gernot Rohr.

Also in the same Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers is Rwanda which like Nigeria and Benin Republic are in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers.
Rwanda, the unlikely leaders in the World Cup qualifiers, are Nigeria’s next opponents when the series resume on March 17, 2025. Rwanda will host Nigeria.
Also in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group D is Libya which belonged to the same qualifying group of 2019 with Nigeria. Nigeria won both legs.
