Ghana cry foul as Nigeria request for 10,000 tickets in a 15,000 capacity Cape Coast stadium
According to Ghanaian pubnlications, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has requested for 10,000 tickets for the 2022 World Cup playoff in Ghana in two weeks time, even though the Cape Coast Stadium venue for the titanic clash takes just 15,000 spectators, Ghanasoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
According to sources at Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports they have received a letter requesting for match tickets from their Nigerian counterparts seeking to attend the first-leg match in Cape Coast.
The stadium situated in the Central Region of Ghana admits 15,000 spectators with the NFF requesting more than half of the actual capacity.
This means the Nigerian government wants to outnumber even the home team supporters 4:1 before the second leg is played in Abuja to decide which team goes through to the global tournament.
With sponsors and other partners likely to take a chunk of the tickets, it is even impossible for the home side to get half of the tickets available let alone the visiting team.
However FIFA regulations demand that the visiting team are given a sizable portion of the tickets but not half of it.
This means Nigeria will not even get 7,500 per the distribution of the tickets and could settle for between 2,000 to 5,000 tickets with the number they are to be given likely to be 3,000 tickets.
If this arrangement is agreed, the Nigerians are expected to reciprocate the gesture when the second leg match is played in Abuja.
This is the latest mind games adopted by the Nigerians ahead of the massive clash with their arch rivals for a single ticket to the 2022 World Cup to be played in Qatar later this year.
The NFF have made advanced preparations ahead of the crucial encounter against their West Africa rivals later this month and it shows they are leaving no stones unturned ahead of the game.
Ghana host Nigeria on March 25, 2022 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before traveling to Abuja for the second leg on March 29 at the Mashood Abiola Stadium.
The Cape Coast Sports Stadium has been the home of the Black Stars during the World Cup qualifiers.
FIFA has sanctioned two lower division clubs in Kenya and Vietnam for match manipulation, relegating them to the third tier, world soccer’s governing body said on Friday.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee found Kenyan side Muhoroni Youth guilty of “activities related to the manipulation of football matches and competitions”, expelling the club from the second-tier National Super League.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has further ordered the relegation of the Muhoroni Youth senior team to the Football Kenya Federation Division One League (third tier) ahead of next season,” FIFA said.
Vietnamese club Phu Tho was also found guilty of match manipulation. The club’s senior team was expelled from the Vietnamese Football League Second Division and relegated to the third division.
FIFA said the clubs had been notified and can appeal the decision.

- CAF Fourth Vice President: Ms Bestine Kazadi Ditabala (Democratic Republic of Congo)
- CAF Fifth Vice President: Mr Feizal Sidat (Mozambique)
In addition, the CAF President has co-opted Yacine Idriss Diallo, President of Fédération Ivoirienne de football, into the CAF Executive Committee.
The CAF Executive Committee also approved the names to fill vacant positions on several CAF Committees.

Nigeria becoming an epicentre of global badminton as Francis Orbih enters the Badminton World Federation Council
Laurels on the courts and now glory in the boardroom sums up the mark that badminton is making in Nigeria.
The President, Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, has been elected as a council member of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The election took place during the BWF Annual General Meeting on Saturday in Xiamen, China.
Orbih emerged victorious over top contenders from other African countries.
He will join Cameroon’s Odette Assembe Engoulou on the council, while Chipo Zumburani (Zimbabwe) and Hadia ElSaid (Egypt) missed out.
An elated Orbih expressed his gratitude to fellow badminton presidents across the globe for their trust and support.
He said, “I am deeply honoured by the trust placed in me by my peers across the badminton world.
“I look forward to quality representation, driving development initiatives, and strengthening badminton’s global reach over the next four years.”
Orbih also acknowledged the support of the Federal Government of Nigeria, particularly the National Sports Commission (NSC), which he said played a significant role in his successful bid.
“The Chairman and the Director General of the NSC monitored the entire process. I’m grateful for their involvement and confident Nigeria will benefit from this,” he stated.
He further appreciated the BFN board members and the Nigerian badminton community for their prayers and continued belief in his leadership.
“From the day I declared my intentions, the board members of BFN have been supportive, and I promise not to disappoint them,” Orbih concluded.
